The Intellectual Property Management Clinic (IPMC) is a structured, four-month programme. It is designed to help innovative SMEs, startups, and spin-offs in the MedTech sector, achieve one critical thing
This programme is organised by Initium Venture Labs Zrt., in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
We are offering expert guidance, structured support, and practical tools to get this right, at no cost, with full confidentiality, and with the backing of the world’s leading authority on intellectual property.

Our four-month programme is built around four pillars:
Get matched with a WIPO-selected IP and business expert, to have at least three confidential sessions, virtual or in person, and on your schedule. Your mentor helps you take stock, spot gaps, and build a strategy that fits your business.
Participate in four expert-led sessions covering IP strategy, commercialisation, patent and trade secret management, and investor readiness. Practical, interactive, and built around real business challenges.
At our programme close, every participant receives a personalised IP Roadmap — a structured report mapping your assets, assessing your strategy, and setting out clear next steps. Yours to keep and act on.
Get connected with fellow founders, researchers, and industry experts, within our Budapest cohort and across WIPO’s global network. Relationships that outlast the programme.

The IPMC is a four-month, free-of-charge programme run jointly by WIPO and a local co-organiser. It provides startups and SMEs with expert IP mentorship, structured training workshops, and a personalised IP Roadmap at the end. It has been delivered in multiple countries across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America — the Budapest edition is the first in Hungary.
Yes. The programme is designed, quality-assured, and co-delivered by WIPO’s IP for Business Division. WIPO selects and briefs the IP experts, provides the methodology and tools, and issues the final IP Roadmap framework. Initium Venture Labs co-organises the Budapest edition as the local implementing partner.
The programme is open to startups, spin-offs, and SMEs based in Hungary, operating in the medtech sector, with a product or service that has genuine IP potential. Applicants should have an entrepreneurial team of at least two people with a good working command of English, as the programme involves international WIPO-affiliated experts. Prior IP registrations are not required — what matters is that your innovation is protectable.
The programme runs over four months and requires real commitment. Participants are expected to attend at least 80% of the training workshops and all of their scheduled mentoring sessions. Companies that cannot meet this level of engagement are unlikely to get the full benefit — and unlikely to be selected.
Yes. Six months after completion, WIPO will send participants a short survey to assess whether the recommendations from their IP Roadmap have been put into practice. This might include IP filings made, contracts updated with IP-related clauses, NDAs put in place, or other concrete steps. It is a measure of real-world impact, not just programme satisfaction.
Each selected company is individually matched with a WIPO-vetted IP expert. You will have a minimum of three one-on-one sessions over the four-month programme. Meetings can be held virtually or in person, and are scheduled flexibly around your needs. A separate session with a business-focused mentor is also included.
Yes. All mentors operate under Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). You can discuss your innovations, business plans, and IP challenges openly without risk of disclosure.
Mentors cover a broad range: IP strategy and portfolio management, protection of products and technology, overseas market IP considerations, IP commercialisation and licensing, IP valuation, freedom-to-operate analysis, and managing IP in collaborations and partnerships.
The four workshops are designed to build progressively: IP strategy aligned to your business model, commercialisation and licensing pathways, patent and trade secret management, and investor readiness. Sessions are led by selected experts and include case studies, interactive discussion, and practical exercises.
Participation in the workshops is a core part of the programme. Companies are expected to engage with both the mentorship and training components to receive the full benefit — and to receive their final IP Roadmap report.
Nothing. The IPMC is completely free for selected participants — this includes mentorship, workshops, tools, and the final IP Roadmap report.
Plan for a minimum of 6–10 hours of mentorship sessions across four months, plus time for the four training workshops. The programme is designed to be intensive but manageable alongside your day-to-day operations.
Every participating company receives a personalised IP Roadmap — a structured report that covers your business model and competitive landscape, the IP and intangible assets identified during the programme, an assessment of your current IP strategy, and concrete, actionable recommendations for moving forward.
Your assigned IP expert prepares the report based on your mentoring sessions, using WIPO’s standard framework and tools. It is specific to your company — not a generic template.
